NEW NURSERY RULES: Harlan ARH Hospital has announced new visiting guidelines for the maternity unit, located on the building's sixth floor. Visiting in the labor rooms will be limited to two people at a time. This rule is to respect the time mothers and babies have together following birth. Sibling visiting is permitted, but must be within the two-person limit and only in private rooms or a designated visiting area under the supervision of a responsible adult. Siblings will not be allowed to visit in semi-private rooms.
In the postpartum (recovery beds) and the birthing rooms, open visiting hours are from 11:00 A.M. to 9:00 P.M. each day. Fathers may visit at anytime. All visitors must check with the nurses at the sixth floor nursing station before visiting patient rooms to be screened for infections.
If you have an open sore on the skin, a cold, or show symptoms of other potentially infectious illnesses (such as vomiting or diarrhea), please do not visit an area with newborn babies and recovering mothers.
Strict hand washing must be observed before touching or holding the baby. Children, other than siblings, will not be permitted to visit in the patient's rooms but may view babies through the nursery window.
"We hope the changes in our visiting policy will improve our patient's satisfaction, which is very important to us," said Vicki Skidmore, RNC, nurse manager of the maternity unit. "Patient safety and the quality of care are our primary responsibility. We will do all we can to provide a positive birthing experience for mothers and babies at Harlan."
